Typical Frankfurt

What is typical for Frankfurt? Is it the characteristic skyline in the banking district, Frankfurt Airport as the gateway to the world or Bembel and “Eppelwoi” (apple wine)? Frankfurt has many faces and therefore some typical features that you will discover during your stay. Between Sachsenhäuser Mainufer, Goethe’s birthplace, Pauluskirche, Fressgass, Palmengarten and the old opera house you will find ultra-modern buildings that rise to the sky. At the same time you will also find small alleys and original shopping districts. Although there is a lot of building activity, Frankfurt remains true to its old values.

Typical Frankfurt – between the banking district and the pub

Frankfurt has above all the face of business. Meetings, conventions, conferences and trade fairs. Higher, faster, further. The next day from the beginning again. There is another side to this. And this is called hearty cosiness. The alleys between the high-rise buildings and the Main River are home to the typical cider pubs and inns. They serve traditional dishes, drink apple wine from the Bembel (stone jug) and tell stories.

We recommend the “Frankfotter Grie Soss”, in English “Frankfurter Green Sauce”. This sauce is so famous that it has been dedicated a festival of its own. And in the Oberrad district there has been a Green Sauce Monument since 2007. The traditional dish is made of seven different herbs that every Frankfurt resident should know by heart. Here again as a reminder: borage, chervil, cress, parsley, pimpinelle, sorrel and chives. The sauce tastes best with hard-boiled eggs and potatoes. But also a Wiener Schnitzel with green sauce is allowed.

Plan a typical Frankfurt evening with apple wine and cosiness with your conference participants. Business will continue tomorrow!
